    Apple Cider Old Fashioned

This apple cider old fashioned is a mash up between a classic old fashioned and crisp hard apple cider. The hard cider gives it a little bit of fizz and lovely fall apple vibes, and it's sweetened with maple syrup, which gives it great maple flavor. It's super fast and easy too!

This is the perfect fall cocktail. Enjoy it next to a campfire with friends or in the company of your fireplace and a movie. It won't disappoint. Looking for other fun cocktails? Try our Blackberry Basil Bourbon Smash, Holiday Rum Punch, or Apple Cider Bourbon Latte.

    Ingredients

    • Maple syrup- you could use simple syrup to sweeten this instead, but the maple flavor really adds something special.
    • Bourbon
    • Triple sec
    • Angostura bitters
    • Hard apple cider- we love Bold Rock Green Apple Cider in this cocktail, but any hard cider will work (Angry Orchard, Red's Apple Ale, etc.). You could also substitute non-alcoholic apple cider or sparkling apple juice if you're in a pinch or don't want double alcohol.
    • Optional: Rosemary sprigs for garnish

    See recipe card for amounts.

    Instructions

Step 1: Add maple syrup, bourbon, triple sec, bitters, and ice to a cocktail shaker or jar with a lid. Shake until everything is combined.

Step 2: Pour the mixture into a cocktail glass with ice. Top the glass with the hard apple cider.

Step 3: Garnish with a rosemary sprig (optional) and enjoy!

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use regular apple cider instead of hard cider?

You can! We've enjoyed this drink both ways. Replace the hard cider with regular apple cider using a 1:1 ratio. You could also use sparkling apple juice!

Is an apple cider old fashioned sweet?

This old fashioned is just a little bit sweeter than a normal old fashioned, thanks to the sugar in the cider. It's not overwhelmingly sweet, though, especially if you use a slightly dry cider.

What kind of bourbon do you use?

We use Bulleit Bourbon because it's reasonably priced and tastes great. Feel free to use whatever bourbon (or whiskey) is your favorite.
