These beer cheddar rolls come together quickly, require no yeast or kneading, and taste amazing warm and slathered with butter. They taste similar to Red Lobster cheddar biscuits but in bread form. They're salty, cheesy, wheaty, and delicious.

These beer cheddar rolls are completely no-fuss and foolproof. You don't have to wait for them to rise, and they'll make your house smell like freshly baked bread in no time. They're great slathered with butter and finishing salt. Pair them with our turkey lasagna soup, creamy cauliflower and baked potato soup, or classic wedge salad.

If you like this recipe, you should try our 5-ingredient beer bread or plantain crust cheesy garlic breadsticks.

    What are beer rolls?

They're just what they sound like--rolls made with beer! The beer and baking soda help the rolls rise, so no yeast is needed. They're chewy and delicious and retain some of the flavor of whatever beer you choose to use.

    Beer suggestions

We recommend a light beer (such as a pilsner). Your bread will be light with a subtle yeasty flavor. Personally, we love using a Belgian-style wheat beer for this recipe (we use Allagash White or Blue Moon). A regular light beer like Bud Light or Coors would work great too.

    Ingredient List

    • Flour
    • Baking powder
    • Salt
    • Beer- see beer suggestions above.
    • Granulated sugar
    • Sharp cheddar cheese- We recommend getting a block of cheddar cheese and shredding it yourself. The pre-shredded stuff doesn't melt as well.
    • Garlic powder
    • Butter
    • Fresh garlic
    • Chives

    Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F.

Step 2: Add flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, and salt to a large mixing bowl and mix to combine. Then add the shredded cheese.

Step 3: Add the beer and water to the flour mixture and mix until everything is combined. The dough should be thick and sticky.

A mixing bowl of cheesy dough. It's thick and sticky in appearance.

Step 4: Scoop the mixture into a greased muffin tin and bake for 40 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 5: Add butter, chives, and garlic to a small bowl or ramekin and microwave 30-45 seconds until the butter is melted. Use a basting brush or spoon to drizzle each roll with the melted butter mixture.

How do I reheat these rolls?

We air fry ours for 3 minutes at 390°F. You could also pop them into the microwave for about 30 seconds or until warm. Either way, we definitely recommend serving them warm!
